Final Reflection for the Historical Thinking Unit

How do historians read historical documents? How do historians write history?
Historians read historical documents by asking questions to the text and making connections- metacognitive reading.  They dig deeper into the text to find the meaning or importance of it.  Asking questions enables the historian to find more information about the document.  It helps the historian to possibly find hidden meanings or clues to what is happening in the document. Making connections throughout the text makes messages and meanings more clear and easier to understand.  This ties in using schema, or prior knowledge, to find out the intention of the document.  Historians write history based on what key events largely impacted the way life is today. It is sort of like writing a chain of events that ends up in the present.  The events that changed the pace of life in the past are the topics historians write about.
